As a C.A.R.E. foster parent, you will find yourself involved in an activity that is truly special by providing the transitional home between rescue and permanent adoption.  Foster parents are responsible for welcoming rescued animals into the family environment.

The time an animal spends with foster parents is crucial to finding the permanent home best suited to a pet’s personality and needs.  As a foster parent, you have the privilege of providing love and care while observing, socializing and teaching.  The feedback you provide to those who work in adoption activities and events is their guide to finding that ‘perfect’ home for each individual pet.

Here are answers to some frequently asked questions.

How long is the dog/puppy and cat/kitten in foster homes?

If the kitten or puppy is young when put into a foster home, we want him or her to reach a good weight before he or she is spayed/neutered so a puppy or kitten may have a longer stay in a foster home.  An older dog or cat will remain with you until we can find a long-term home for him or her.  We always hope the stay is short-term, just until we can get the animal into the loving home that wants the animal.

Does the foster parent pay for the veterinary care and food for their fostered animals?

When fostering for C.A.R.E., we commit to all the medical needs and veterinary visits.  There is no medical expense to the foster parent.  We will also provide the food for the fostered animal.  We do not want our foster parents to have out of pocket expense.  We appreciate you welcoming the animal into your home.

Are foster parents eligible to permanently adopt an animal in their care?

Yes.  Sometimes that perfect home just happens to be yours.

How does one become a foster parent?
