FIRST Annual 5K Run for Rescues
It was cold, windy and trying to rain on March 21. But they came. Runners wanted to participate in our First Annual Run for Rescues to benefit the animals.
Now, dedicated runners are a terrific ‘breed.’ They usually have high intelligence, are healthier than the majority of Americans, and once they commit they finish the job. They are also slightly ‘touched in the head.’ Weather doesn’t mean a thing. “What tornado?” “Oh, is that what a hurricane looks like!” “What tsunami!” And we loved everyone that came out to support our efforts and our rescues.
We thank everyone who volunteered and especially, Karen Lester and Mimi Zielinski who worked their fingers to the bone marketing the run, organizing the runners, registering them and clocking the finalist. Also, Kate Dolnick who has many projects but developed a data set to keep track of pre-registered runners. Doug Soebbing did his part carrying water, carrying me, putting up signs, welcoming runners and keeping me calm.
Put on your calendar for next year, March 26, 2011. We are gonna have our Second Annual 5K Run for the Rescues. We thank everyone who volunteered, participated, ran and kept me calm. The rescues thank you also.
